New To Me - Tinashe
I came across Tinashe over at Arjan's pop blog. He keeps me up on what my European folk are listening to. Look out for my European music month in March. I'm gonna go hard with everything!!! But I digress....
Tinashe is Zimbabwe born(ya'll know I love and support my Africans, Wale may be an exception) and lives in UK now. He is pop, electro, and r&b. He voice is very versatile and his recent MAYDAY EP have been making moves overseas. Let me be the first to say I will not be surprised if he's killing the U.S. scene by the beginning of 2011. Anywho, dolow you can find a video of the "Mayday" acoustic version, which is soooo hot. Trust I love it and it's exceptionally different from the studio version. Definitely a spin on it. Also, a video for another one of my favorite songs "Saved" is dolow. Check out his myspace for more music and info.
Live and Direct - FKI @ The 808 Experience
I told ya'll I would get you some video of The SMKA 808 Experience!!! It was good for as long I was there. I had to leave early, but it is my first time seeing FKI live and others so they did provide a good experience. Hope to see more in the future! The video is not the best but I get a new video recorder soon!!! Can't wait.
Riddim of the Week - Showtime
Just a headsup, the Riddim of the Week is brought to you by Craighton Young, the southern boy with a Caribbean swag....
Okay so the Showtime riddim was produced by Dave Kelly in the late 90s(around 1997 to not be exact) and it's been one of the best riddims in Jamaican dance since the JoyRide riddim(which will be on the blog sometime soon).
This riddim has been used by Baby Cham, Bounty Killer, Cobra, and others. Shaggy got up in this riddim too! Watch the mix video dolow and answer the trivia question!! You can email me the answer if you like! I may have a PRIZE for the first person!!!!(Honestly, the answer is in the post, this is too easy people!)
"Versioning" is the term for redoing old riddims and voicing them with new artists. Check out the boys at JamRid for more info on riddims.
A riddim that somewhat bites this riddim will be up next week!!! Can you guess what it is?
I Know I'm Late - Maxwell Live on Oprah
Yoooo if you have not heard Maxwell's album BLACKsummers'night you should kill yoself and have someone play it to you while in your grave. Otherwise if you have, check out one of the best tracks of the album, let alone 2009, "Fistful of Tears."
